Day 2 - Tire Rack, Indianapolis Raceway & Putnam County

The drive to Indianapolis was a little grueling.  We stopped at the Tire Rack in South Bend, Indiana where we had breakfast (at 3:30 a.m. - a special thanks to the Tire Rack folks that got out of their comfortable beds very early to feed us).

At Indianapolis Raceway Park we were seeded 47th out of 80 for the first event.  We thought we could do a little better than that.  Dave did a great job driving, the car actually exceeded our expectations.  We finished the first event in 23rd place over all and 3rd in Mid-Price Sedan class.  We beat both factory backed Saturns, all the S-4s and Suburu WRXs as well as many race prepared BMWs.

After the first run we discovered a miss in cylinder 1.  We found the #1 spark plug lost its tip.  The result was 50 lbs of compression and now a 5 cylinder engine.  We decided to run the second session after replacing the bad spark plug.

Our second run was only 3 seconds slower in a 6 minute run.  We did more engine damage.

We are hauling the Grand Am GT home with the thought of putting another engine in and rejoin the One Lap mid week.
